Kilims are handmade flat woven sheep wool carpets or rugs produced in mazar-e-sharif, Afghanistan. They are produced by tightly interweaving the wrap and weft strands of the weave to produce a flat surface with no pile. The patterns of kilims are predominantly geometric and the most common layouts as well as multiple connected diamond-shaped medallions, and all-over octagonal shapes.

The variety of designs, colors and sizes in kilims are the characteristics that make them especially attractive and adaptable for countless applications in home decoration.
